Monday: Explore postmodernism in film and discuss the impact of culture change and major events on our social and literary/creative consciousness. Create a poster that demonstrates the postmodern theme in film created since the 70s.

Tuesday: Journal about the things you carry. Discuss Viietnam and 102 Minutes, then take notes on these central ideas and track them as you read from The Things They Carried:

  • Appearances vs. Reality

  • Courage

  • Fear

  • Physical vs. Emotional Weight

  • Guilt

  • Story-Truth vs Happening-Truth

  • Perspective and Heroism

  • Shame as Motivation

  • Loneliness and Isolation

  • Clouded Morality

  • Social vs. Personal Obligations

  • Language and Psyche

Wednesday: Journal about intense images from the Vietnam War, then continue reading from The Things They Carried and relating it to the first 20 minutes of 102 Minutes that Changed America. Track the central ideas and determine which of the postmodern themes we discussed Monday are reflected in the text and the film.

Thursday: It's the final Touchstone, then we will continue with our analyis of The Things they Carried and 102 Minutes that Changed America.

Friday: Complete O'Brien theme project, which is essentially a magnified version of what we turned in on Monday.
