Read through chapter 7 before next week!!!

For this week:

Monday: Discuss how the Simpsons Intro video reflects the Modernist theme of disillusionment. Afterward, continue exploring film technique, then, in groups, analyze "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (see video)

Tuesday: Complete reading quiz on chapters 3 through 5, then find and analyze one Modernist poem that deals with Harlem Renaissance-relevant themes, flapper culture/womens' rights themes, or disillusionment with the American Dream.

UPDATE: Because the "Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" activity is taking longer than anticipated, we will move the Harlem Renaissance poem analysis essay to Friday and extend our film critique into next week.

Wednesday: Jot down your favorite movies and what you like about them. What draws you to them? Do they share a common theme, style, emotional impact? Analyze video clips for symbolism of elements and camera angles. Begin working with a small group on (1) determining the thematic focus of your film study, and (2) finding links to movie critiques. You will analayze one criticque each tomorrow on your blogs.

Thursday: Begin film critique project by finding one film critique per person to delineate on your blog. Afterward, with your groups, watch your assigned films and complete the analysis sheet, looking for three scenes that reflect a Modernist era theme.

Friday: Continue film critique with groups, then post this week's blog as a direct response to the points made in the film critique you found and delineated on Wednesday. Do you agree with each argument? Disagree? Use specific evidence from the critique and the film to support your evaluation of the film.

Here's another animated version of Prufrock.

It is very well-done and super creepy, but it is only half of the poem :/.
