So, we're back. The countdown to Senior Year is getting short - Are you ready? Your grade matters, for sure. But what about the bigger picture? What can we really take from this class and apply to our lives beyond reading and writing skill? Hopefully, that social consciousness we've been talking about is beginning to take root in your minds. This week, we'll explore an issue that one group of lawyers believes remains problematic in America and figure out what we think about it, then persuade others to think as we do by using EVIDENCE, instead of simple-minded Youtuber insult-hurling.
Monday: We will take an Act III quiz and finish watching Act III and Act IV in The Crucible and peer edit other unidentified students' persuasive letter.
Tuesday: We will visit lab 305 again to complete and print our letters and the associated rubric. You will omit your name from the letter and write a number I assign you instead. This way, the people who edit your letter will not know whose letter they are editing.
Wednesday: I will be at a meeting off campus. While I'm gone, you and a partner will peer edit some persuasive essays form other class periods. You will not know whose paper you have, but they will know who gave them feedback when they receive it. You will be asked to give three letters each of the following: (1) a grade on the rubric; (2) a compliment based on the category in which you scored the letter the highest; and (3) two specific suggestions to improve the scores for the two categories you scored them the lowest on the rubric. The clarity and thoroughness of your peer feedback will be graded.
Thursday - Friday: Innocence Project research and essay drafting (more information to come) - 1 handwritten draft due for grading at the end of the day Friday. Next week, we will revise, edit, and publish as a major grade to end this unit.
