Week 11 flew by with no blog post from me. Sorry folks! Here's what we did:

Monday: Exam review session

Tuesday: Modernism, Film Criticism, and The Great Gatsby Exam

Wednesday: Morality & Money Simulation

Thursday: Match.com book dating; create "How to Read Literature Like a Professor" notes booklet

Friday: Get novels for book clubs, and begin reading, looking for literary patterns ad making notes

Week 12:

Monday & Tuesday: Establish weekly reading goals and role assignments to complete. Read awhile, beginning to prepare this week's reading group role assignment. Finally, begin exploring satire via Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary, and create your own polished satirical dictionary page that meets the following requirements:

(1) Includes five words defined as Bierce originally defined them

(2) Each word must include an illustration of the satirical joke

(3) Each word must include your own original explanation of how the definition is satirical

Wednesday: Take a picture of your satirical dictionary page, then turn it in to the assigned lexicographer. Afterward, read your novel, and work on your chosen role sheet for this week.

Thursday: Visit lab 706 to post a picture of your satirical dictionary page along with the following:

(1) A definition of satire with the source hyperlinked

(2) Another example of satire (video, image, or text)

(3) Your own explanation of satire (re-defined in your own words)

Friday: Read and compose a text-supported response to three of the following issues:

(1) What struggles with the American Dream do characters in your book face?

(2) How is one character in your reading an “ideal citizen”?

(3) How is one character in your reading not an “ideal citizen”?

(4) How is one of the literary patterns in your booklet reflected in the text?

Finally, use your answers to participate in fishbowl activity – you must speak at least twice and must cite specific passages from your reading
