Our goal these first two weeks is to build our community to prepare for our American Literature odyssey, which will begin with The Crucible , a play by Arthur Miller. Unlike Puritan New Englanders, we will enter the American wilds with open minds and ready to work together as we explore American values in the literature that helped to shape who we are.

Our units this semester:

All Men Created Equal (The Crucible & The Trouble with American Identity)

Pursuit of Happiness (The Great Gatsby & American Disillusionment)

Ideal Citizen (literature circles dealing with social issues in American culture)

America in Crisis (literature circles exploring more modern struggles and postmodern literature)

As we build our community of learners, we will:

Solve some mysteries and compose warrant requests to arrest the criminal(s).

Interview one another, and write each other's bios OR create post-it truths and lies game from which to tell stories about our partner.

Introduce one another to the class.

Prepare to hunt witches in and act out The Crucible.
